Tower 23 Hotel
We selected this hotel for its rare claim in Pacific Beach: the only address sitting...
The Pacific Terrace sits on a low sandy bluff in Pacific Beach, close enough to the water that the pool deck feels like an extension of the shoreline. It is the only beachfront hotel in San Diego to hold the AAA Four Diamond award, a distinction that shows less in any single feature than in the consistency of the whole property: patios on every room, a pool positioned to catch the sunset, and service that keeps the resort feeling considered rather than sprawling. Seventy-plus rooms keep it a manageable size, closer to a well-run beach club than a convention hotel.
We chose the Pacific Terrace for the balance it strikes between genuine beachfront luxury and an unpretentious, sandy-footed atmosphere. Every room, not just the top categories, opens onto a private patio or balcony, which is unusual at this scale so close to the water. The heated pool and hot tub sit right at the bluff's edge, and the Terrace Cafe serves the pool lounge directly, so a full day can pass without leaving the property. It reads as a resort built for people who actually want to be at the beach, not just near it.
Diamond Street places the hotel a short walk from both the calmer northern stretch of Pacific Beach and the boardwalk's busier bars and restaurants toward Garnet Avenue. Crystal Pier and its fishing pilings are a few minutes on foot, and the bluff position means the beach itself starts almost at the pool fence rather than across a road. La Jolla's coves are a short drive north for tide pools and a quieter afternoon, while Mission Bay's calmer waters suit paddleboarding a few minutes inland. It is a location built around walking to the sand rather than driving to it.

Amenities: heated oceanfront pool, hot tub, complimentary bike rental, direct beach access, accessible rooms

The room plan is built around outdoor space: standard rooms, junior suites and full suites all carry a private patio or balcony, a detail that separates the Pacific Terrace from most beachfront properties of comparable size. Interiors lean into a contemporary coastal palette rather than a themed beach look, and the spacious suites suit families or longer stays better than a typical hotel room would. Guests chasing an unobstructed ocean view should request an oceanfront category specifically, since garden-facing rooms trade the view for quiet.
The pool deck is the hotel's real social center: heated water, a hot tub at the bluff's edge, and Terrace Cafe running food and drinks to loungers through the day. It suits guests who want resort rhythm, breakfast on the patio, an afternoon by the pool, a walk on the sand at sunset, over a packed sightseeing schedule. Complimentary bikes make the boardwalk easy to reach for a ride toward Crystal Pier or south toward Mission Bay, and the pool area quiets down by early evening as the crowd shifts toward Garnet Avenue's restaurants.
